Bible Video: Jesus Visits Paul in Prison
Scripture: Acts 23:1-11
In this Bible video, the Savior visits Paul in Prison. Before learning about that, let’s take a look at the setting that got Paul into prison. Paul was brought before Ananias the high priest. This is a different Ananias than the one that healed him. Ananias questioned Paul, and Paul withstood his questioning. Among the menacing crowd, were Pharisees and Sadducees. Paul, being a former Pharisee before he was converted knew something of the doctrine of the Pharisees and the difference between that of the Sadducees.

One of the main differences between the Pharisees and the Sadducees was their belief in the resurrection. The Pharisees believed in a resurrection and the Sadducees did not. So, Paul, being intellectually bright, made a statement that got both groups into a debate. He said, “of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question” (Acts 23:6). The debate became fierce and both groups began to pull at Paul. Then the high priest, fearing that they would tear him apart, took him and locked him in a castle – like a prison.
As Paul was in prison (technically locked in a castle), Jesus came by night and stood by him and said, “Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome” (Acts 23:11). By this, Paul knew that he would be released and must go to Rome to bear witness of the Savior. If you read the rest of Acts 23, you will see an interesting plot unfold, involving Paul’s nephew, who helped Paul get away from 40 Jews who had banded together and who swore they would not eat or drink until they had killed Paul.
