Bible Video: You Are the Temple of God

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 3:14-17

In this Bible video, we learn about some of Paul’s teachings from his writings to the Corinthians. Paul taught that we are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in us (1 Corinthians 3:16). In other words, after we are baptized, through the laying on of hands, we can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. This means that if we live good lives, the influence of the Holy Ghost can be with and inspire us as a constant companion.

More About this Video:

However, if we make wrong choices and commit sins and give in to the lusts and temptations of this life, the Holy Ghost is offended and leaves our “temple”, and we are left without the light that could have guided us. For us to gain the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost in our lives again, we must repent and turn away from our sins. As we do those things light comes into our lives and grows brighter and brighter (Doctrine and Covenants 50:24).

In 1 Corinthians 3:17, it says that “if any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are”. So, if we don’t take care of our bodies which are a sacred gift from God, He will destroy us. Here are some of the ways that people defile their bodies which can bring the destruction of God upon them (if they don’t repent): taking drugs or alcohol into our bodies, taking pornography or vile images into our minds through our eyes, not eating right or getting proper sleep on a regular basis. Here are some of the ways that we should take care of our bodies, so they can be resurrected in glory after this life (remember, everyone is resurrected and will live in immortality, but some to the resurrection of life and some to the resurrection of damnation – John 5:29). We should eat right, exercise as needed and take wholesome things into our bodies. We can study and learn productive things from both the scriptures as well as from educational institutions. We should also keep our bodies clean and pure by bathing and doing our best to look like a child of God. Remember, we are all children of God. Doing these things will bring blessings upon us now in this life and the rewards that God has in store for us in the eternities
