Scripture: Matthew 2:1-16.

The wise men saw a new star in the sky and they knew it was a sign of the birth of the “King of the Jews” even a Savior. The wise men then travelled to Jerusalem and talked to King Herod to find out where Jesus was, so they could worship Him. Herod, secretly conspiring to kill Jesus, said “when [you] have found him, bring me word that I may come and worship Him also.

More About this Video (continued from above)

The wise men found Jesus and worshipped Him and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Afterward, they were warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod. Joseph was also warned in a dream that he should flee (run away from danger) with Mary and Jesus to Egypt so Herod would not kill Jesus (see more below).

Herod learned that the wise men had come looking for Jesus – a new “King of the Jews” (Matthew 2:2). King Herod was jealous of a potential new King of the Jews and did not want to lose his kingdom. When the wise men initially came to Jerusalem, Herod found out when they had first seen the star (2 years before). He then had all male children killed that were 2 years or younger (Matthew 2:16). This was called “The Massacre of the Innocents”. However, as seen above, Joseph had already fled to safety in Egypt with Mary and Jesus. They stayed in Egypt until the death of Herod (4 BC).
