Bible Video: Jesus' Triumphal Entry Into Jerusalem

Scripture: Matthew 21:1-11

In this Bible video, He rides triumphantly into Jerusalem mounted on a donkey. To set the background of this video, a majority of the Jews were waiting for the Messiah to come. They expected him to come in power and might and save them and their nation. When Jesus came to earth born in humble circumstances, many didn’t believe that he truly was their Messiah due to misconceptions of what the scriptures truly meant. The Jews did not fully understand scriptures like Isaiah 53:2-3 that said, “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.” This scripture talks about how Jesus was despised and rejected of men.

More About this Video (continued from above)

At the time of His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Jesus told His disciples how to find the donkey. He said, “Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find a [donkey] tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them” (Matthew 21:3). As a representation that Jesus truly was the Messiah, and because it was prophesied in the scriptures, he did come as royalty, upon a donkey riding into the city.

As mentioned, Jesus also came into Jerusalem riding upon a donkey because there was a scripture that prophesied he would do so. Before His triumphal entry, he said, “Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon a [donkey], and a colt the foal of a [donkey]” (Matthew 21:5). This fulfilled the prophecy in Zechariah 9:9 that said, “behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a [donkey], and upon a colt the foal of a [donkey].” Jesus truly was the Messiah and because of the misinterpretations of the scriptures, and the pride and wickedness of the Jews, they did not realize He was their Lord and Savior – even their Messiah.
