Bible Video: Jesus Teaches About John the Baptist

Scripture: Matthew 11:1-30

In this Bible video about Jesus, He is visited by some of the disciples of John the Baptist. At that time, John had been put in prison. The disciples of John asked Jesus, “Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?” (Matthew 11:3) Jesus answered them and said, “The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.” In other words, by my works, you can know that I am the Son of God.

More About this Video: (continued from above)

Then, Jesus started teaching His disciples about John. He talked about his “rough” clothing that fit the description of a prophet according to the Jews at that time period. For the ancient Jews, a prophet had rough clothing and lived in the wilderness like the the prophet Elijah. Then, Jesus went a step further in honoring John and said, “Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist.”

Towards the end of Jesus’ teachings in this chapter is one of the most comforting scriptures in the Bible. Jesus said, “Come unto me all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest”. In other words, Jesus loves and wants to help us. He lives, and He wants us to come unto Him. He wants us to find rest and peace. His hands are continually stretched out towards us beckoning us to come to Him (Isaiah 5:259:1210:4). If we do come unto Him, we find rest and peace amidst a world of turmoil. Some of the ways we can come unto Him are to pray, attend church, study our scriptures and remember Him often. The promise of peace is available to anyone in the world who comes unto Him.
