Bible Video: Forgive Seventy Times Seven

Scripture: Matthew 18:21-35

In this Bible video, Peter asks Him and how many times he should forgive his brother if he sinned against him. Peter asked the Lord if forgiving his brother seven times would be sufficient. Jesus told Peter that we should not forgive only seven times but seventy times seven, or in other words, 490 times. In this scripture, Jesus probably really didn’t mean that we should only forgive someone up to 490 times. He simply made the number a very high number meaning that we should forgive everyone any time they sin against us or offend us.

More About this Video: (continued from above)

Then Jesus told the parable of a man who owed his Lord 10,000 talents (a talent was a unit of money). His Lord was going to put him in jail, but the man pled for mercy. His Lord had mercy on him and then the man went to someone who owed him 100 talents and demanded payment. The one who owed the 100 talents asked for mercy, but the man didn’t give him any mercy, but sent him to prison. Then when the Lord heard what the man had done, he sent him to the tormentors. The point of this parable is – just like the man should have forgiven the one who owed him 100 talents, we should forgive those who have offended us or sinned against us. If we forgive others, the Lord Jesus Christ and God will forgive us. If we don’t forgive others, God won’t forgive us. There’s a scripture in the Doctrine and Covenants 64:10 that says, “I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.” Forgiving others is a requirement to get into heaven and having forgiveness from our Heavenly Father. Think for just a minute. Is there anyone you should forgive, but haven’t? If you just feel like you can’t forgive them, pray for help from God to forgive them. If you pray sincerely and with enough faith, eventually God will change your heart and help you to forgive. Don’t give up. Keep praying until your heart changes and you can forgive them.
