Bible Video: Feed My Sheep

Scripture: John 21:1-22

In this Bible video, we learn about His important command to Peter – feed my sheep. After the death of Jesus, the apostles and a few disciples, as they were not now in the presence of Jesus and daily receiving guidance from Him, instead of going to preach the word or do other activities they might have done when Jesus was with them continually, they decided to go fishing. After they spent the evening fishing without any success, a man from the shore told them to cast their nets on the right side of the ship. They did that and caught a great number of fishes. John then said to Peter, “It is the Lord” (John 21:7). Peter immediately jumped into the water and swam ashore to be with Jesus.

More About this Video:

When they all got ashore, Jesus invited them to dine on bread and fish that were being cooked over a fire. This was the third time Jesus had shown himself to His disciples. The first two visits of the resurrected Savior had the purpose of confirming that He yet lived and was resurrected. Now the focus of His visits began to change. He asked Peter “lovest thou me more than these (meaning more than the fish and fishing and Peter’s former profession)?” Peter answered, “Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee”. Then, Jesus said, “Feed my lambs”. Jesus asked again and after Peter’s second answer, he said, “Feed my sheep”. Then Jesus asked a third time, “lovest thou me?” Peter’s heart ached and he said, “Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee.” Again, Jesus said, “Feed my sheep” (John 21:17). It is interesting to note that Peter denied Jesus three times, then Jesus gave Peter the opportunity three times (Mark 14:30) to express his love for Jesus. We realize after this that Peter was still in good standing with Jesus even though he denied Him three times. So, let us learn from Peter’s experience with the Lord how important it is to express our love for our Savior. One of the best ways to express our love for Him is to feed His sheep. In other words, we should serve others and strive to build them up. We should share the message of the gospel with others and help them to have faith in Jesus. We can encourage them to study the scriptures regularly and/or encourage them to sign up to receive these videos which can help them deepen their faith in Jesus. We should do these things for those outside of our families and also for those within our families. Let us remember to “feed His sheep” and love others.
