Stephen then began to teach them about God and Jesus as well as Abraham and Moses. Stephen spoke unto them with power. At one point, when they looked at Stephen, they saw that his face looked like the face of an angel. We can only assume that this meant that his face shone when the power of God came upon him. As you watch the video, notice Saul – not yet converted or known as “Paul” the apostle – dressed in orange with a brown robe. According to the book of Acts, this event happened just before Saul’s conversion. We can’t help but wonder if Saul (later Paul) had the seeds of Christianity planted in his heart during the trial and stoning of Stephen.

Next, the Jews decide to stone (kill him by throwing rocks at him) Stephen for blasphemy. However, before he is stoned, the heavens are opened and Stephen testifies to all present that he sees the Son of Man (Jesus) standing on the right hand of God. Then Stephen is stoned to death. Stephen becomes one of many martyrs in the history of the world who died for the cause of truth, for the cause of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May we look with reverence upon those who have died for the cause of the kingdom of God and with even more regard for Jesus who was the ultimate martyr – who bled from every pore and died for us on the cross because of His love for us. He died so we can repent and return to live with Him and God for eternity if we will believe in and follow Him in faith.
