Bible Video: To the Unknown God

Scripture: Acts 17:16-33

As we watch this Bible video, we learn about Paul’s his message about the unknown God. As Paul was in Athens, he became concerned when he noticed much idolatry. In other words, many people were worshipping false gods and idols. Then, Paul went up Mars hill and preached to some of the people in Athens. He said that he perceived many of them were superstitious. As evidence, he found an altar with the inscription, “To the Unknown God” (Acts 17:23). He also told them that they worshipped ignorantly. He then taught them of Jesus and the resurrection.

More About this Video:

After Paul taught about the unknown God, he taught some important doctrine. He taught about how God “hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation” (Acts 17:26). When that verse talks about all nations being of “one blood”, that meant that we are all descended from Adam, our blood relative, whom God created. When he said, “and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation”, this means that God made a plan for us before the foundation of the world. Before this life, he knew us, He knew our abilities and we had progressed as spirit children of God (Jeremiah 1:6). Since He knew us better than we know ourselves, He created a master plan designating where we would be born, to whom and much of the environment that would be our life that would mold and shape us in the ways that would bless us eternally. Although God made that plan, we still have free will or agency to make choices and react to our circumstances.

In Acts 17:29, we learn that we are the offspring of God. We were created in His image, and we were His spirit children in the premortal existence. God loves us deeply as a loving father loves a child. He wants us to progress and be happy and learn the important lessons of life. As the offspring of God, we have the ability to become like Him.
