Bible Video: The Last Supper
Scripture: John 13:1-35
In this Bible video, we see the moving scene of the Last Supper. Every year in Jerusalem was the feast of the passover which commemorated the liberation of the children of Israel, under Moses, from the Egyptians. This Passover had an especially deep meaning. It was the last meal Jesus had before his suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, His crucifixion and His resurrection. The teachings of Jesus at this point, where the weight of the world must have been bearing down against His soul, were especially tender and deep.

Jesus started by washing the feet of His apostles. Then, he instituted the holy communion also called the sacrament as a remembrance of His body and His blood. During the Passover, He confronted His betrayer – Judas – and told him to do quickly that which he had to do (the betrayal). Jesus then gave them the new commandment, which superseded the Law of Moses, He said “A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another. As I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:33-34).
Jesus then gave His apostles a preview of what would happen, but few understood that He made reference to His death. He said, “A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father” (John 16:16). He also told them that they would be scattered and that He would be alone, but He would not entirely be alone, because the Father would be with him. Then Jesus left his apostles with powerful words of peace. He said, “These things I have spoken unto you that In Me ye might have peace” He continued, “In the world ye shall have tribulation [trials and challenges] but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
