Bible Video: The Sermon on the Mount
Scripture: Matthew 6:19-21, Matthew 7:1-27
This is the last and fourth part of the Sermon on the Mount that we’ll cover here in the videos about Jesus section of the site. This video talks about laying up for yourselves treasures in heaven. Previous videos on the Sermon on the Mount covered The Beatitudes, Going the Extra Mile and The Lord’s Prayer. As mentioned, the first part of this section, Jesus talks about “laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven”. To lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven, we should strive to be kind and have charity (the pure love of Christ) towards others. We should also spend time praying and studying the scriptures each day as well as serving others.

After returning to His apostles, Jesus is betrayed by Judas Iscariot – one of the most evil acts in the history of the world. Then, we see Jesus before pilate and the Pharisees who are chanting “CRUCIFY HIM!” At the same time, we see the love of His mother, who is agonizing in the crowd, among the Pharisees and Sadducees. Then Pilate denies culpability for His crucifixion. Next, we see His scourging with a whip and the crown of thorns being put on His head. After, He carries the cross and is then nailed to it and crucified. While on the cross, we see the ultimate act of forgiveness as Jesus asks the Father to forgive the soldiers who crucified Him. Then, He commends His mother into John’s care, and finally says, “Father, into Thy hands I commend my spirit” then finally “It is finished”.
After his death, we see His body in the tomb, the despair of Mary and, two days later, His appearance to Mary as our resurrected Savior. This video brings peace to the soul and warmth to the heart as we learn that the Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, came down from heaven and suffered for us because of His great love for us. Let us think about Jesus often and with reverence. For as we believe in Him, repent and are baptized, it opens the gates to heaven wherein we may enter for eternity and dwell in the presence of God in the afterworld.
Jesus then talks about putting first the kingdom of God (Matthew 6:33). This means that we should take time each day for to remember and think about God. Instead of watching so much TV or spending a lot of time on our favorite social network, we can spend more time studying the scriptures and serving others, or spending quality time with those we love – especially our own families.
The Sermon on the Mount comprises Matthew 5-7. As mentioned on a previous video page, when Jesus came to the Americas after his resurrection, he also shared the Sermon on the Mount with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas. Next, in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus teaches us that we shouldn’t judge others. He declares that the judgment we use to judge others will be used by God to judge us (Matthew 7:1-2). For example, if someone does something that appears wrong in our eyes, and we judge them (we don’t give them the benefit of the doubt before knowing all the circumstances), God won’t give us the benefit of the doubt either when we are judged at His judgment bar. As it says at the beginning of the Sermon on the Mount, if we have mercy for others, we will obtain mercy from God. If we all strive to have more mercy, the world will be a better place.
