Bible Video: Peter Walks on Water
Scripture: Matthew 14:25-33
After the miracle of the loaves and the fishes, Jesus went into a mountain to pray (Matthew 14:23) while his apostles took a boat across the sea of Galilee. Late in the night, the apostles saw a figure walking on the water and they thought it was a ghost and were struck with fear. As the figure got closer to the boat, the voice of Jesus said, “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:27).

Then, Peter took courage and said, “Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water” (Matthew 14:28). Jesus said, “Come” and Peter got out of the boat and, to the amazement of the other apostles, walked on the water towards Jesus. Then the winds became loud and Peter, losing focus on the Lord, began to fear and sink. He cried, “Lord, save me” (Matthew 14:30). “immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?” (Matthew 14:31) Then, those in the ship said, “Of a truth thou art the Son of God” (Matthew 14:33).
Although Peter lost focus and still lacked the full faith needed to reach Jesus through the loud and fierce winds, we have to give Peter credit, as the only one of the 12 apostles, to have the courage to try walking on the water. If you or I were in the boat with the apostles, would we be the one who would have the courage to try and walk on the water or would be be content to stay in the boat? Let us have courage in life to do the works of God, keep our focus on Christ and come unto Him.
