Bible Video: What Lack I Yet?

Scripture: Matthew 19:16-26

In this Bible Video, we learn about the phrase “What lack I yet?”. To set the scenario, a young rich man approached Jesus and wanted to know what he should do to have eternal life. Jesus repeated some important commandments to the young rich man; thou shalt not to kill, commit adultery, kill or steal. He also said to honor his father and mother and love his neighbor as himself. The young mas said that he had done all of those things from his youth. Then he asked the important question, “What lack I yet?”

More About this Video: (continued from above)

Jesus, knowing the young man and his heart, and also knowing what would be the most challenging commandment for him to keep, and the one that would be a catalyst to get him to heaven, said, “Go and sell all that you have and give to the poor, then you will have treasure in heaven, and come follow me”. For each of us to enter into heaven, we have things that we must give up. For some of us it might be giving up some of our money and giving more to the poor. For some it may be giving up video games or playing them in moderation, for others, it may be to focusing less on worldly things like shopping and looking good to others and giving more service. How do we know what we may yet lack? If we pray sincerely to God, the voice of His Spirit will whisper to us or put thoughts in our minds of what we yet lack. Asking this question may take courage. Courage to follow what we might hear from God. However, if we are obedient to the impressions we get, we will be laying up for ourselves treasures in heaven – for all eternity.

As we ask, “What lack I yet?” the answer may be challenging, however if we are willing to try, God will help us to accomplish the challenging. Because as Jesus said in verse 26, “With God all things are possible.” Are we willing to ask “what lack I yet?” Are we willing to follow the answers we may get? If so, we will find great peace in life and build for ourselves treasures in heaven as we seek first the kingdom of God.
